((Fair warning: I've never done RP before... just thought I'd try it out after seeing guild chat a few times. Still kind of forming Teani's personality))
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teani closed her eyes, and the wind blew through the trees around her. A passerby - if there ever were any - might think the druid was sleeping, perhaps even permanently. But Teani knew no one ever came through this part of the forest; that was why she secretly claimed it as hers so many years ago. That was why she was able to at last let her guard down and become absorbed in the feel of the grass on her cheek and her heartbeat against the earth.
Sometimes she even felt a bit of her natural abilities flourish in the quiet afternoons she spent reconnecting with the world. For instance, she knew that there was a sparrow perched on a tree branch just a few yards from her feet based on the sound of his feathers ruffling and his talons scratching at the bark. She could also smell a storm in the air that most likely wouldn't be visible for another day at least.
The Night Elf rolled over onto her back just in time to see the sparrow take flight and glide over her, casting its shadow on her face for a brief moment before disappearing into the forest. Teani watched the leaves fluttering above her and thought about the people she was meeting at the guild. Despite having spent recent years on her own and being a bit of a loner, she was grateful for the people who took her in and provided her with a family, dysfunctional as it may be.
Teani smiled to herself as she imagined what an odd sight they would make in a family photograph: gnomes next to Night elves and surly death knights sharing a moment with their gentle healers. It was a nice homage to the life Teani had led, actually. Upon leaving her seaside home in Auberdine, the wide-eyed young traveler made it a point to surround herself with anyone willing to be her comerade... and sometimes even the ones who were not. A bitter chill ran up her spine as her memory flashed to an old Draenei warrior she once traveled through the jungle with for several weeks. They had made a good pair logistically: a life-ender and a life-giver. But that was where the ideal partnership ended. Tikhon trusted no one and only allowed the Night Elf to accompany him because she kept quiet and had an undeniable skill at healing his wounds, both old and new.
A rustling in the thick wooded area beside her shook Teani out of her daydream, and she sprung to a crouch, fading her form in with her surroundings just as a squirrel ran out of the bushes and stopped in the clearing. It stood on its haunches, whiskers twitching, and looked around only a second before darting away again.
"Foolish," she scolded herself as she sank back to the grass and then let out a small chuckle. Usually vigilant in her awareness, Teani realized she had been more panicked over the loss of her precious sanctuary than the thought that anything was stalking her. She didn't know what she would do without the small grassy opening and the time she spent there nourishing her baser instincts.
The hustle and bustle and lights of the cities she had visited excited her and piqued her interest in the strangers all around, something her father and sisters never quite understood. Still, Teani never could escape the pull of nature. Nor did she want to. Her closeness with the earth brought her peace and made her feel replenished after difficult days, and there had been many of those lately.
It was hard being on her own. Back home, the community provided; here, the individual provided. Teani's days, which were once filled with moments like these, were now busied by adventures and battles. She now spent as much time working to feed her body as she once spent feeding her spirit. She had some scars, some memories, some nightmares; but no regrets and no plans to do anything other than move forward.
The druid heard a flutter as the sparrow returned to its perch, and the darkening sky told her she would soon have to do the same. But for now she just wanted to feel the earth pulsing beneath her hands. Teani closed her eyes, and the wind blew through the trees around her.
