Young Avallach always knew he would follow in his grandfather the archmage Cedric’s footsteps and become a mage of the alliance.
“Magic is in our blood” his grandfather would say. “It comes in several forms and not all forms are good or wholesome. The magic of nature, the arcane, and that which comes from the holy light, while still very deadly if not wielded properly, are wholesome or at least neutral forms of power. Magic which comes from shadow and especially demonic sources is dangerous in the extreme and will eventually corrupt and destroy those who wield it. I know this for I have seen it first hand. If you are to become a mage, you will need to learn to wield natural elemental magic as well as the magic of the arcane. Always treat magic with respect. Always use it for good and honorable purposes. Defend the helpless, defeat the darkness, show mercy when you can. That is your responsibility. That is your calling.”
Cedric charged his underling, the archmage Alturus, with the task of apprenticing young Avallach. While not a cruel master, Alturus was stern and set high standards for Cedric’s grandson so Avallach had to work hard and study diligently to live up to those expectations. At the end of his apprenticeship, Alturus took Avallach with him on a journey to the south to the great city of Stormwind.
Shortly after arriving in Stormwind, Alturus sat Avallach down and said, “It is time for us to part ways my young charge. I have taught you what you need to know for the tasks that lie ahead of you. The alliance needs you now, Avallach, to battle against the scourge who still present a dire threat to Azeroth as well as against the remnants of the horde who do not honor the truce and wantonly kill our alliance brethren.
Although you are now a full-fledged mage, you will never stop learning. Return here to the magus in Stormwind from time to time where you will learn new skills, and also learn enhancements to your existing skills. As for me, I am to take on a new apprentice. A young man by the name of Darius who I will take with me as I continue on to the tower of Karazhan to conduct some experiments for a…personal project of mine.
You are to report to Northshire were you will be given your first assignment. In time, when you become powerful enough, you will journey to Draenor where you will face even deadlier battles. Godspeed my young mage and Light be with you.”
In spite of his rich heritage, Avallach knew that he would have to prove himself. Life was not going to grant him favors and he would not be riding on the tail of his grandfather’s robes. So, with meager supplies, a tattered old staff, and the most basic of clothing, Avallach set out for Northshire…
