Liyil stepped out of The Indelibles Guild Hall and mounted her Gryphon. Although she was curious whether anyone noticed her long absence, she was also relieved nobody was present at the Hall to witness her final departure. Her eyes welled up, but no tears fell. She did not look back, but neither did she spur the Gryphon. She just sat motionless staring intensely at nothing, struggling to overcome the overwhelmingly gentle and affectionate tug of the only place that even resembled what she imagined "home" to be.
She was struggling and she was being defeated. There was nothing she could do against this enemy. She could not stun it; she could not stab it in the back; she could not even step through the shadows and flee.
But she would not weep. That was not an option. With her lips closed tightly, she grit her teeth and kicked the side of her Gryphon.
The air is damp today, she assured herself as she ascended into the sky. That was the only explanation she could find to account for the moisture on her cheeks.
